MU WBB FALLS JUST SHORT AT WILLIAM & MARY

FINAL SCORE
William & Mary 73 (12-10, 7-4 CAA)
Monmouth 68 (11-12, 6-6 CAA)

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Bri Tinsley scored a game-high 30 points and Lucy Thomas became the 18th player in program history to score 1,000 career points but it was not enough as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to William & Mary 73-68 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday afternoon.

Tinsley, who became the first Hawk to score 30 points in the last 10 years, added five assists and three rebounds in the contest. Kaci Donovan added 11 points while Thomas just missed a double-double as she had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Riley Casey led William & Mary with 27 points while Sydney Wagner added 22 points.

William & Mary scored the game's first bucket before the Hawks responded with a 7-0 run. Donovan had five points in that stretch. The Tribe scored eight of the next 10 points and tied the game at 10-10. A pair of Tinsley triples gave the visitors a 16-12 edge. A pair of buckets in the final minute gave the Tribe a 20-18 edge after one.

A 12-0 run by William & Mary midway through the second quarter gave the home team a 35-22 advantage. Tinsley scored the final five points of the quarter as Monmouth went into the half trailing 35-27.

William & Mary scored four of the first seven in the third quarter and led 39-30 with 8:05 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets as William & Mary led 52-40 with 2:43 to go in the period. Monmouth responded with an 11-0 run and pulled to within three, 54-51 at the end of three. Tinsley had six in that stretch.

The Tribe scored five of first seven in the fourth quarter and pushed its lead to 59-53 with 7:51 to play in the game. Sandwiched in between those William & Mary buckets was the layup that allowed Thomas to hit the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Monmouth scored seven of the next nine in the game and pulled to within one, 61-60 with 5:57 on the clock. Thomas had four points in that stretch. The two teams continued to battle as an Ella Farrelly bucket and a free throw from Thomas tied the game at 63-63 with 3:11 to go. William & Mary scored the next six points in the game to extend its lead. A Tinsley triple at 1:03 pulled the Hawks to within one, 69-68. The Tribe went 4-for-6 down the stretch to close out the 73-68 win.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Credit to W&M for making plays down the stretch today. I'll continue to say it, we need a full 40 minutes, especially on the road. We had a great response and I'm proud of that but we have to come ready and continue to defend at a high level without fouling."
- Head Coach Ginny Boggess
