BASEBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE AT FLORIDA ATLANTIC

BOCA RATON, FL – Monmouth University Baseball completed its opening weekend of the season, dropping the series finale Sunday at Florida Atlantic University, 17-2. Ben Winstead homered for the second straight game for MU.
 
FAU jumped to an 8-0 lead across the first four innings. Winstead led off the fifth for the Hawks with a solo home run, his second in as many days to get MU on the board. The Hawks added another run in the sixth with Austin Denlinger leading off with a base hit and going to third on Phil Stahl's double. Jay Bant drove him in with a ground out.
 
Florida Atlantic posted five in the fifth and four across the sixth and seventh to open up the lead and ultimately win, 17-2.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES
 
"A few bright spots today; although we did not play good enough baseball to have a chance today. We found out a great deal about the team though and look forward to having a great week of practice. Galvan threw well and congrats to DeMucci for his first hit." – Head Coach Dean Ehehalt

-Matt Scrivanic, Drew Helmstetter, Tommy Kent, Chris Killian and Nick Galvan all made their MU debuts.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth totaled eight hits on the afternoon.
-Seven MU pitchers saw action, with Nick Galvan and Jake Fraher turning in scoreless outings.
-FAU had 19 hits in the contest.
