WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The United States Naval Academy jumped out to a 9-6 lead at the half and finished strong for a 15-9 win over the Monmouth University women's lacrosse team on Saturday morning.
 
Cassidy Orban had a two goals and one assist for three points for the Hawks and also added four draw controls. Caroline Brennan contributed a goal and two assists on the day while Carli Mangum had a pair of goals. Emily Messinese led Navy with four goals while Ava Yovino had a goal and five assists. 
 
The first period was a back-and-forth battle that featured a combined 12 goals between the two sides. The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage on goals from Carli Mangum and Maddie Murphy. Navy scored the next three goals in the game. The Hawks and Mids alternated goals over the next five minutes or so and found themselves tied at 5-5 with 3:58 left in the first. Madison Flynn scored her first goal of the season for the Hawks on a free position goal. Navy scored the final two goals of the period and took a 7-5 lead after one.
 
Navy scored the first two goals of the second period and pushed its lead to 9-5. Mangum struck for her second of the day late in the second but the Mids took a 9-6 lead at the break. 
 
Each team scored twice in the third period as Navy sandwiched a pair of goal in between a pair of Monmouth tallies. Mya Brock and Orban had the goals for the Hawks in that stanza.
 
Shea Berigan scored the first goal of the fourth period but Navy scored the final four to secure the 15-9 win.

- Monmouth held an 8-5 edge in saves in the game as freshman Gia Mitchell made five of her stops after halftime.
- Both teams were successful on the clear in the game. Monmouth went 16-for-18 while Navy was 17-for-19. 
- The Hawk defense caused nine of the Navy 14 turnovers in the contest. 

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Danielle McNeely had an assist early in the first quarter and has now registered a point in eight straight games. 
- Caroline Brennan had a goal and two assists for three points on the day. She has now registered at least three points in every game this season. She has scored a goal in 19 straight games and recorded a point in 21 straight contests. 
- Cassidy Orban finished with two goals and one assist for three points in the game. 
- Orban and Mya Brock tied for the team lead with four draw controls each. 
- McNeely led the Hawks with three caused turnovers in the game.
