HALL HELPS POWER MONMOUTH TO WIN AT AMERICAN

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jania Hall poured in a career-high 18 points to lead the Monmouth University women's basketball team to a 72-60 win at American University on Wednesday night. The Hawks picked up their second straight win while evening their overall record at 4-4.
 
American got off to a quick start in this one and led the Hawks 8-2 with 6:41 left in the first. The Eagles pushed their lead to 10-5 before the Hawks ripped off a 9-4 run to close the quarter and cut the home team's advantage to 14-13. 
 
The two sides traded points to start the second period as American led 20-15 with 6:12 left on the clock. A Belle Kranbuhl lay-up on the next possession jumped started a 18-6 run by Monmouth to close out the period. That turned a five-point deficit into a seven-point advantage, 33-26 at the break. Hall had 11 of the Hawks' 18 points in that stretch.
 
The third quarter was fairly evenly matched as American outscored the Hawks, 16-15 but Monmouth led 48-42 on the scoreboard. 
 
Monmouth opened the fourth quarter on a 14-0 run and extended its lead to 62-44. Jaye Haynes had five points in that stretch while Kranbuhl added four. The two teams traded points over the final four and a half minutes as Monmouth closed out a 72-60 win.

- Monmouth picked up its second every win over American and its first since the 2006-07 season. It was also Monmouth's first win on the road over American. 
- Jania Hall had a career-high 18 points in the contest. It was the second time this season she has established her career-high in points.
- It was the third time this season that Hall has scored in double figures. 
- Taisha Exanor finished with 10 points and has scored in double figures in back-to-back games and three times this season. 
- Monmouth improves to 3-0 on the year when it scores 70 or more points in a game. 
- The Hawks made the most of their offensive rebounds. Monmouth turned 13 offensive rebounds into 13 second chance points.
- The 24 points scored in the fourth quarter by the Hawks are tied for the second most by Monmouth in a quarter this season. (25 points in the second quarter vs. Brown).

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth posted its second-best field goal percentage of the season (48.1%). The Hawks shot better than 50% from the field in the second and fourth quarters. Monmouth improves to 3-1 on the year when the Hawks shot 40% or better from the field. 
- The Hawks were aided by going 17-for-25 from the foul line in the contest. Jania Hall led the efforts from the charity stripe as she was 5-for-6 in the game. 
- Monmouth dominated the rebounding battle, 40-27. Nine Hawks recorded at least one rebound in the game with five of them having five rebounds. 
- The Hawks had a season-high 10 steals in the game as Hall and Ella Farrelly led the way with two each.
