MONMOUTH DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO NEW HAMPSHIRE, 31-24

FINAL SCORE
New Hampshire 31 (5-5, 3-4 CAA)
Monmouth 24 (4-6, 3-4 CAA)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – New Hampshire scored three fourth quarter touchdowns to defeat the Monmouth University football team by a 31-24 final score on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.

A record setting receiving day by Dymere Miller and 402 yards passing from quarterback Marquez McCray were overshadowed by the loss. Monmouth held a 17-10 lead going into the fourth quarter and was up 24-17 before the Wildcats scored the final two touchdowns to secure the victory.

Miller finished with 11 catches for 333 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while McCray completed 21-of-32 pass attempts in the game. Miller's 333 yards were the most in a game in the FCS this season and the second-most in CAA history. He broke Miles Austin's previous single-game record of 235 yards set in 2005.

Coming into the game with high-powered offenses on both sides and dynamic running backs, the defenses were able to keep Monmouth's Jaden Shirden and New Hampshire's Dylan Laube in check. Shirden, the nation's leading rusher, was held to 85 yards, ending a string of five-straight 100-yard games, while Laube finished with 68 total yards, including 47 on the ground.

Eddie Morales III recorded an interception in the end zone for the second straight game, Jake Brown led Monmouth in tackles with 12 for the third game in a row, while Antonio Colclough had two sacks to lead the defensive effort.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I think the result of that game is really on me, one hundred percent. I think we had fourth and three in field goal range in the fourth quarter, if we kick a field goal there we probably walk away with a win. I think I got a little greedy there going for the first down, we didn't get it, and they go down and score a touchdown to take the lead. We tried to answer at the end, but there just wasn't enough time."
Head Coach Kevin Callahan

"I thought offensively we would be able to move the ball. I thought our offensive coaches had a really good plan. We thought going in that we could put Dymere in some positions inside where he could take advantage of their coverages. We thought he could win some of those matchups against their quarters coverage and that is what happened, he had a great game."
Callahan on the offensive gameplan

"We just connected as soon as he got here. When you have a good quarterback who can throw the ball and me, I am going to get open, it's not hard to build that chemistry."
