FINAL SCORE
UAlbany 41 (9-3, 7-1 CAA)
Monmouth 0 (4-7, 3-5 CAA)
ALBANY, NY – A strong first-half performance propelled nationally-ranked UAlbany past the Monmouth University football team, 41-0, in the Hawks' season finale on Saturday afternoon at Casey Stadium.
UAlbany made its impression on the game with an opening drive that lasted nearly 10 minutes and ended with a trick play that saw wideout MarQeese Dietz hit Julian Hicks in the corner of the end zone to make it 7-0.
Monmouth, facing a 21-0 deficit, struggled to find its footing offensively until the midpoint of the second, but the Hawks' best drive of the opening half stalled inside UAlbany territory, ending with a turnover on downs.
Mike Reid's third-career interception ended a Great Danes drive late in the half.
UAlbany took advantage of a Monmouth turnover in the red zone and turned the interception into more points to take a 28-0 advantage at that point. The Great Danes scored twice more to run the final total to 41-0.
NOTES AND QUOTES
"It was a difficult day to say goodbye to our seniors. They have contributed so much to the program over the last four, five and six years. They have really enabled us to get to where we are today and I wish we could have ended on a better note for them, but we can't forget all the positive things they have done for the program."
