PHILADELPHIA – The Monmouth University women's rowing team opened its 2023-24 campaign on Sunday afternoon at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

Monmouth earned a pair of second-place finishes in the freshman events and also competed in a Varsity 8 race for the first time in program history. 

The Hawks were second of seven in the Freshman 8+, behind Temple, and were second of five in the Freshman 4+, finishing two seconds behind Drexel. Monmouth had three entries in the Varsity 4+ with its "A" boat posting a top 10 time before incurring a one-minute penalty. The Hawks had two entries in the Varsity 8+, coming in 17th and 21st, respectively.

"It was exciting to watch 14 new Hawks make their debut today against an outstanding field that featured numerous NCAA Championship qualifiers. We posted excellent results in the Freshman events, with two second-place finishes.

Our returners showed real progress in year two and set a great example leading this extremely young group. We capped off the day racing in the Varsity 8 for the first time in program history. Both boats held their own against great competition with lineups composed of two thirds freshmen. We learned a great deal today as a team and are very much looking forward to building on these results."
