COFC BATTLES BACK TO DEFEAT MU WBB, 70-65

CHARLESTON, SC – Ariana Vanderhoop posted her second career double-double but it was not enough as the College of Charleston battled for a 70-65 win over the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. 
 
Vanderhoop reached double figures for the third straight game as she finished with 14 and matched her career-high with 11 rebounds. Bri Tinsley and Lucy Thomas each added 13 points and six rebounds for the Hawks. Jada Logan led the Cougars with 27 points while Anika McGarity added 13 points. 
 
The two sides traded baskets early on as a Tinsley basket put the Hawks on top 7-6 at the 5:08 mark. Charleston responded with a 7-3 run and took a 13-10 edge with 2:05 to go in the period. The two teams went back-and-forth as the Cougars scored the final five points of the first period and took an 18-14 lead after one. After Charleston scored the first bucket of the period, the Hawks scored six straight points and tied the game at 20-20. Charleston went back up three but the Hawks responded with a 9-2 run and took a 29-25 lead with 3:27 to go until the half. Tinsley and Vanderhoop each hit three-pointers in that stretch. Monmouth eventually took a 33-31 lead at the break. 
 
Monmouth led 41-38 on a Tinsley bucket at 6:43 of the third quarter. The Hawks and Cougars continued to battle as Charleston scored the final five points of the period and took a 48-47 lead with 10 minutes to go. The two sides battled to start the fourth as a Jen Louro three-pointer tied the game at 53-53 with 7:12 to go. Charleston scored the next six points and pushed its lead to 59-53. The Hawks cut their deficit to one several times over the final minutes but could not climb all the way back and ultimately fell, 70-65.

- The Hawks recorded nine blocks to Charleston's one.

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
Ariana Vanderhoop scored in double figures for the third straight game and seventh time this season. It was the second time this season she has recorded double digit rebounds. It was her second double-double of her career.
- Belle Kranbuhl tied her season-high with five blocks in the contest. 
- Kranbuhl was also second on the team with seven rebounds in the game. 
- Tinsley has now scored in double figures in 11 games this season while Thomas reached double figures for the sixth time this year.
