BALANCED ATTACK LEADS WBB TO ROAD WIN AT DELAWARE

NEWARK, DEL – Four players scored in double figures as the Monmouth University women's basketball team used a balanced attack to secure an 80-60 win over the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks improved to 2-0 in conference play with the win.
 
Lucy Thomas dropped in a game-high 19 points for the Hawks while Bri Tinsley added 15 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Lovin Marsicano (11 pts.) and Belle Kranbuhl (10 pts.) also reached double-digits for Monmouth. Makayla Pippin led Delaware with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
Delaware jumped out to a 6-3 lead early in the first quarter before Monmouth found its rhythm. Back-to-back threes from Amiya Carroll and Tinsley helped the visitors take a 12-8 lead with 3:49 to go in the stanza. The Hawks and Blue Hens continued to battle as a Kranbuhl lay-up at 1:36 gave MU a 19-15 lead. Thomas added a bucket as the Hawks took a 21-16 lead after one. Monmouth opened the second quarter on a 8-2 run and pushed the lead to 29-17 with 8:35 to go until the half. The two teams traded baskets as a pair of free throws from Marsicano at 4:44 extended the Monmouth advantage to 39-28. Delaware closed the second quarter on a 6-0 run but the Hawks led 41-39 at the break. 
 
Monmouth opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run and took a 48-41 advantage with 6:51 showing on the clock. The two teams traded baskets over the final six plus minutes of the period as Monmouth took a 53-49 lead with 10 minutes to play. The Hawks continued to push the tempo in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Blue Hens, 27-11 to close out the game. MU took advantage of its opportunities at the foul line in the period, going 11-for-13 in that 10-minute stretch. Tinsley went 5-for-6 in that stretch to lead the way.

- Monmouth knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game, including three from Kaci Donovan and two each from Lucy Thomas and Bri Tinsley. The Hawks are now 6-3 on the season when they hit at least eight three-pointers in a game. 
- The Hawks matched their season-high with 51 rebounds in the game.
- MU connected on a season-best 18 shots from the foul line.
- The Hawks are 2-0 to start CAA play. 
- MU has 17 assists in the game, the Hawks were led by Bri Tinsley who matched her career-high with eight assists.    

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Lucy Thomas exploded for a game-high 19 points in the win. It was her fourth double-digit game of the season and the third time she has scored 19 or more points in a game.
- Bri Tinsley had 12 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Hawks close out the win. She has now scored in double figures in five straight games and nine times this season. 
- Amiya Carroll led the Hawks with a career-high eight rebounds in the game. She hadn't had more than four rebounds in any of her previous contests. 
- Belle Kranbuhl had three blocks in the game. She now has 28 blocks on the season and 124 for her career. She needs one more block to move into the top five for career blocks at Monmouth. 
- The Hawks, hit 18 free throws in the game, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Lovin Marsicano was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line while Bri Tinsley went 5-for-6 from the stripe.
