RICHMOND, VA – Four Monmouth University football student-athletes have been recognized with Colonial Athletic Association Football Preseason accolades, the conference announced prior to its annual media day on Thursday.
Eddie Morales III earned Preseason All-Conference Team recognition on special teams at punt returner, while
Tony Muskett claimed the lone quarterback spot on offense. In addition, running back
Juwon Farri and punter
Ryan Kost were Honorable Mention choices.
Morales III led the Big South last season in punt return yardage and was a First Team All-Big South honoree at punt returner as well as defensive back. Morales III started all 11 games at corner and led the Hawks with three interceptions. He totaled 57 tackles, including 35 solo stops, with six pass breakups and nine passes defended.
Muskett, Monmouth's returning two-year starter at quarterback, finished the 2021 season with 2,651 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, which both ranked second all-time in a single season at MU. Muskett earned First Team All-Big South honors for the second consecutive season after leading the conference's top scoring offense at 32 points per game.
Farri was also a First Team All-Big South pick as a redshirt junior. He totaled 705 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns despite missing three games due to injury. He had three 100-yard games on the season.
Kost was a First Team All-Big South choice in 2021 and claimed his second straight all-league recognition. He averaged 44.3 yards per punt which led the conference and finished eighth in the NCAA. Kost had 12 punts of 50+ yards and 17 of his 40 punts were downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
The conference also announced its preseason poll where the Hawks were voted 10
th out of 13 teams. Defending CAA Champion Villanova was picked to win the CAA Football title again in 2022 according to a vote of the league's head coaches and media relations directors.
CAA Football expands to 13 teams for the first time in 2022 as Hampton and Monmouth join the conference. CAA Football has had a team in the FCS championship game 11 times since 2003, a squad in the semifinals of the playoffs for the past nine seasons and a team in the quarterfinals every year since 1991. Eleven of the league's 13 current members have participated in the FCS playoffs since 2015.
