WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Closing out both its regular season and its time in the MAAC, the Monmouth University softball team (11-38, 6-14 MAAC) sent its seniors off with a sweep of Quinnipiac on Monday afternoon. The Hawks won the opening game, 3-1, before coming from behind and scoring three sixth inning runs in a 5-3 game two victory.

Quinnipiac's lone run in game one came on an RBI single to right field in the second inning. The Hawks scored their first run in the bottom of the third when Riley Riendeau came home after a failed pickoff attempt by the catcher resulted in an error. Monmouth added two insurance runs in the sixth frame on a pair of sacrifice flies by Abby Warner and Eve Serrato. Billie Kerwood picked up her ninth complete game of the campaign, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out ten, which tied a season high. Lindsey Baron picked up the 50th double of her career in the bottom of the fifth which tied a program record.

MU got on the board first in game two when Riendeau sent an RBI double to left field, plating Serrato and Julia Thuer. After a scoreless third, the Bobcats scored their first run in the fourth on a solo home run by Kayla Thomas. The catcher would strike again in the top of the sixth when she went yard for a second time, giving Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead. Monmouth battled back in the home half of the sixth, though, utilizing a pair of RBI singles by Thuer and Riendeau and a sacrifice fly by Serrato to retake the lead. Gletow struck out the side on 12 pitches, claiming her eighth complete game and closing out the season for the Hawks.
