RALLY AGAINST PRINCETON FALLS SHORT FOR SOFTBALL

Princeton Tigers (13-12, 6-3 Ivy) – 7
Monmouth Hawks (5-25, 0-2 MAAC) – 5

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University softball team (5-25, 0-2 MAAC) managed to score four runs in the seventh inning against Princeton (13-12, 6-3 Ivy), but its rally ultimately fell short in a 7-5 loss.

Down 7-1 entering the final frame, the Hawks used a pair of walks by Danielle Dominik and Devin Coia and a single by Eve Serrato to load the bases with no outs. A walk by Lindsey Baron made the score 7-2, and back-to-back RBI singles by outfielders Francesca Torraca and Stavi Augur cut the deficit to three. The Tigers countered with two straight strikeouts, but then hit Abby Warner on a 1-2 pitch to bring home Monmouth's fifth run and keep the bases loaded. A two-out pitching change for Princeton proved to be effective as Monmouth struck out to end the game.

MU got on the board first in the opening inning, but Princeton countered with a pair of runs in both the second and third frames. The Tigers added two more runs in the top of the sixth and an additional run in the final inning to build a 7-1 advantage.
