WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The Monmouth University men's tennis team captured the 2022 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 victory over No. 3 seed Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at Mercer County Park Tennis Center.
Monmouth earned its sixth consecutive MAAC title dating back to 2016. The Hawks also won their program record 20
th match of the season and extended their winning streak to 11 consecutive matches.
The Hawks secured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
Victor Castro and
Trent Massam won convincingly 6-1, while
Dmitry Bezborodov and
Gabriel Busato took their match by a 6-2 margin.
Lucca Silva took care of business in straight sets at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2) to put Monmouth ahead 2-0, before
Trent Massam won his ninth straight match, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. The MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player,
Dmitry Bezborodov clinched the match and the championship with his 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles.
