WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's tennis team battled Wagner College on Tuesday afternoon in two rounds of individual matches.
The Hawks won five of the six singles matches and two of three doubles matches on the afternoon.
In the first round of individuals, the Hawks got things started with a doubles win.
Luka Sauer Jimenez and
Oleksandr Vysochenko battled for a thrilling 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-5 win over Nicola Bottelberghs and Eddie Schmidt.Â
Lukas Escher and
Tyler Nguyen earned a 7-5, 6-0 win over Axel Engström and
Aidan Miller in the other doubles action.Â

Monmouth won all three of the singles matches in the first session.
Santiago Ledesma recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Ryan Szilagy.
Ota Ungerman followed with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Joshua Zhao. Eñaut Garcia closed things out with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Vibhu Challagundla.
In the second session, Garcia and Ungerman picked up a 7-6 (4), 6-2 doubles win over Szilagy and Zhao.Â
Vysochenko continued his strong afternoon with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 singles win over Bottelberghs. Sauer Jimenez earned a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 11-9 thrilling win over Schmidt.Â
Escher battled for a 6-2, 6-4 win over Miller to close out singles action.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday, Oct. 15 when the ITA Northeast Regional hosted by the University of Pennsylvania gets underway.
