OFFENSE SURGES IN HAWKS' ROAD WIN AT FAIRFIELD

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Monmouth women's lacrosse team tied its season-best total for goals scored in a game after topping Fairfield, 21-16, in a MAAC road victory on Wednesday.
 
The Hawks (9-6, 4-2 MAAC) trailed by two, 6-4, after the first quarter before the offense flipped a switch. Cassidy Orban opened the second quarter with a goal for Monmouth to spark a 12-2 run that lasted until the 9:24 mark of the third quarter.
 
The Stags (8-5, 3-2 MAAC) had one last charge in them and pulled within three, 19-16, with 3:48 left to play in the game. However, the Hawks put in two goals in the remaining time to secure the road win.
 
Monmouth received contributions on the offense end from a bevy of Hawks. Caroline Brennan logged a five-point outing on four goals and an assist. The rookie did not miss in the game, connecting on all four of her shot attempts. Maddie Murphy also went a perfect 4-of-4 in the game for a career-high four goals.
 
Mya Brock had a career day, finishing with a career-high five points on three goals and a pair of assists. The Sterling, Va., native tied her career-best marks in both goals scored and assists. Cassidy Orban and Danielle McNeely also posted hat tricks in the game with three goals apiece, while Ella Spears helped facilitate the offense with two assists to go along with one goal.
 
Monmouth made its presence known in the draw circle and won a season-best 27 draws compared to Fairfield's 14. Orban led the way with seven draws, while Brianna Falco and Ali Styba each recorded six and Maddie Murphy tallied four.

-It was the Hawks' second game of the season with over 20 goals scored after tallying 21 in the season opener versus Central Connecticut State on Feb. 20.
-The Hawks picked up their eighth win all-time opposite the Stags.

Monmouth returns to Kessler Stadium on Saturday to host Marist in a MAAC tilt slated for 2 p.m. The Hawks will honor their senior class following the game against the Red Foxes.
