SOFTBALL PICKS UP WIN OVER FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON IN FLORIDA

Monmouth Hawks (2-12) – 6
Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (4-11) – 5

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Behind a complete game performance from Kylie Gletow and multi-RBI days from Julia Thuer and Abby Warner, the Monmouth University softball team got back in the win column with a 6-5 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.

Thuer kickstarted Monmouth's offense in the top of the first, launching her first home run of the season to left center and giving the Hawks an early 2-0 lead. With the bases loaded and two away, Warner singled up the middle to extend MU's advantage to 4-0 in the opening frame.

In the top of the third, Danielle Dominik sent a 2-2 pitch to center field for a one-out double. Lexi Castaneda came in as a pinch runner and later came around to score after a groundout by Riley Riendeau, plating Monmouth's fifth run of the contest. The Hawks would score their sixth run in the sixth inning when Stavi Augur singled and forced a throwing error, allowing Emily Spencer to cross home.

Making her third start of the weekend, Gletow tossed all seven innings for the Hawks in the circle. The right-hander allowed seven hits and four earned runs while picking up three strikeouts, including two in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Gletow induced a groundball to Spencer at second base, closing out the win for the Hawks.
