WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth women's lacrosse team fell to Manhattan, 11-10, in a tightly-contested double overtime MAAC game on Tuesday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
Manhattan (7-4, 1-1 MAAC) led by one, 10-9, with less than two minutes remaining in regulation before
Cassidy Orban connected on a free position shot to even the score. Monmouth (5-6, 0-2 MAAC) won the ensuing draw control, but could not generate a quality look before the horn sounded.
In the second overtime period, the Jaspers got the ball off a Monmouth turnover and maintained possession until scoring the game-winning goal with 16 seconds on the clock.
Caroline Brennan led the attack for the Hawks with a team-high four points on three goals and an assist. Orban,
Hope Steuerwald and
Maddie Murphy each tallied multi-goal games with two scores apiece.
Defensively,
Madi Bednarik put together a career-high 13-save performance with 10 of her stops coming in the first half.
Mya Brock and
Gabriella Vangeli combined for four of the Hawks' eight caused turnovers after they each recorded a pair.
