SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Monmouth University softball team (4-21) got back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon, splitting a road doubleheader with Big East opponent Seton Hall (11-11). MU cruised to a 9-1 victory in the front half of the doubleheader before falling in a high-scoring game two, 8-6.

The Hawks tied a season-high by plating nine runs in game one, never trailing once in the win. With two outs in the opening frame, Emily Spencer brought home Stavi Augur with an RBI single to left field, giving Monmouth a 1-0 lead. After the Pirates evened things up in the bottom of the first, the Hawks put up three runs in the second inning on a pair of two-out RBI singles by Francesca Torraca and Augur.

Spencer picked up her second RBI single of the day in the fourth inning, while Abby Warner sent a home run out to left in the fifth inning to put the Hawks up 6-1. Monmouth pushed across three more runs in the seventh, with Riley Riendeau and Torraca supplying the RBIs on two doubles.

Down 6-3 after three innings in the back half of the doubleheader, the Hawks battled back and tied the game at six after scoring three times in the top of the fourth. Riendeau notched an RBI double and quickly came around to score on an error by the catcher, while Augur tallied an RBI two-bagger of her own to even the score. The Pirates would ultimately score once in the fourth and once in the sixth to narrowly win game two.
