PHILADELPHIA, PA – Monmouth University Baseball (7-8) dropped a midweek contest Wednesday at the University of Pennsylvania (8-5). Freshman
Jay Bant hit his first career home run, and sophomore
Dixon Black hit a bases-clearing double in the contest.
Â
Bant's homer in the top of the second cleared the right field wall and gave MU a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Hawks loaded the bases and
Dixon Black doubled off the wall in left, clearing the bases to make it 4-0. In that span,
Ryan Bearse worked three one-hit innings, keeping Penn off the board.
Casey Caufield extended his hitting streak with an RBI single after Penn's lone run of the opening five innings came on a solo homer, the only run
Cory Hiltz would allow in two on the mound.
Â
Penn was able to put together a big sixth inning to take the lead, scoring seven runs on six hits to lead 8-5. The home team added another three on three hits in the eighth to lead 11-5, the eventual final score.
