FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Despite a 4-0 run by Sacred Heart to close out the game, the Monmouth women's lacrosse team hung on to secure a 13-10 road victory on Friday afternoon.
Â
Monmouth (4-2) led by as much as seven, 13-6, with 6:53 left to play in the game after scoring four unanswered goals. However, momentum began to shift toward Sacred Heart (2-4) as the Pioneers got into an offensive groove and put up four straight goals with the last coming at the 26-second mark.
Â
The Pioneers won the ensuing draw control and marched their way down the field before getting a good look at the net, but
Kennedy Fruit was there to make the stop and limit any further damage to seal the win for Monmouth.Â
Â
Hope Steuerwald pieced together another standout offensive performance after putting up her second straight seven-point game with a game-high seven goals. Three of Steuerwald's scores came off passes from
Ella Spears, who tied her career-best mark of four points.
Â
Carli Mangum tallied a pair of goals in the win, while
Mary Kate George,
Danielle McNeely, Orban and Spears each found the back of the net once.
Â
Brianna Falco led the defensive effort with a team-high two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
