ALBANY, NY – Monmouth University Men's Basketball (18-11, 10-8 MAAC) dropped a league matchup at Siena College (15-11, 12-6 MAAC) Sunday, 70-59.
Walker Miller led MU with 15 points, while
Nikkei Rutty grabbed 11 rebounds. Due to results across the league, Monmouth has secured a first-round bye in the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
Marcus McClary's basket tied the game early in the second half, and trailed by just two after a
Myles Ruth finish with 13:21 remaining. Siena used a hot second half from beyond the arc to extend their advantage as large as 12 before MU got within six in the closing minutes, but couldn't get any closer.
Walker Miller hit a three and a hook shot before a block on the defensive end led to a Shavar Reynolds coast-to-coast layup, sparking MU to a 7-0 lead. Siena responded with a run of their own, leading by as many as 14 in the half, before Monmouth posted an 11-0 run to end the period. MU scored six straight in the paint, the final two buckets coming from
Myles Foster to make it a two-point deficit at half.
NOTES AND QUOTES
"Credit to Siena. On Tuesday we shut them down and we won, I'm not going to overreact. Tuesday we guarded them a lot better and they didn't get hot. Today we didn't guard them as well and they got hot and they won. We cut it to four a couple of times and didn't get a clean look." – Head Coach
