CONWAY, SC – The Monmouth University softball team lost both of its matchups during the second day of the Chanticleer Showdown, hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Hawks lost to Big Ten opponent Maryland 14-4 in game one while dropping a contest to Ivy League squad Dartmouth 6-2 in game two.

Monmouth battled early with the Terrapins, tying the game up at two in the bottom of the first following back-to-back RBI singles by
Julia Thuer and
Danielle Dominik. Thuer picked up two more RBIs in the bottom half of the seventh when she plated
Lindsey Baron and
Francesca Torraca on a double to center field.

MU fought hard against the Big Green, breaking open a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth when
Stavi Augur sent out her first home run of the season to left center. Dartmouth tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the frame and added an additional run in the sixth. Monmouth loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, and
Abby Warner singled to center field to bring home Augur and Thuer to cut the four-run lead in half.

-The Hawks set a new season-high with 11 hits against Dartmouth
-Nine players combined for those 11 hits
-Kerwood's six strikeouts were tied for the most the Hawks' pitching staff has accumulated in a game this season
