FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 57 (5-3)
St. Francis Brooklyn 44 (1-7)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's basketball team used a stifling defensive effort to claim a 57-44 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday evening.

The Hawks limited the Terriers to just 44 points in the game, including 12 in the first half. It was the lowest point total allowed this season by the Hawks and is tied for the second lowest point totally allowed by a MU squad under head coach Ginny Boggess.

Jen Louro came off the bench to score a game-high 12 points for the Hawks while Ariana Vanderhoop grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Alyssa Fisher led the Terriers with eight points.

Monmouth got off to a quick start in this one as Bri Tinsley's jumper at 4:48 of the first quarter gave the home team an 11-2 advantage. A three-pointer from Antonia Panayides at the buzzer gave the Hawks a 17-6 lead after one. The two sides traded buckets early in the second quarter as a triple from Lovin Marsicano extended the Hawks' lead to 25-12 with 4:45 on the clock. That bucket was part of an 11-0 run to close out the quarter for MU. Tinsley capped the run with a three-pointer at the buzzer that gave the home team a 33-12 lead at the break.

The Terriers scored 10 of the 17 points put on the board in the third quarter but Monmouth was able to maintain its lead. MU led 40-22 with 10 minutes to go in the game. The Hawks opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run and led 47-24 with 6:25 to play. MU finally closed out a 57-44 win.
