PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown University women's basketball team made a free throw with eight tenths of a second remaining in the fourth quarter to claim a 70-69 win over the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Friday afternoon.
Kaci Donovan paced the Hawks with a career-high 22 points and five rebounds while
Belle Kranbuhl had nine points and a season-high 13 rebounds.
Ariana Vanderhoop chipped in eight points and five assists. Grace Arnolie led Brown with 23 points while Charlotte Jewell added 14 points and nine rebounds.
Brown knocked down five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the game and took an early 21-15 lead in the contest. The two sides went back-and-forth in the second quarter but the Bears scored the final six points of the stanza and took a 40-32 lead at the break. The Hawks turned in their best shooting percentage of the game (50%) in the third and briefly took a 51-50 lead on
Jania Hall's jumper with 1:14 to go but Brown got one more bucket and took a 52-51 lead with 10 minutes to play.
Monmouth opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run and took a 58-54 lead with 7:57 to go in the game. The Hawks and Bears went back-and-forth as neither team took a lead of more than two points over the next several minutes. Brown led 69-67 as Monmouth brought the ball up the floor with 33 seconds left on the clock. After a couple of misses and offensive rebounds, Kranbuhl put one back and tied the score with 6.9 seconds to go. A foul by the visitors sent Brown to line with eight tenths of a second to go. Arnolie missed on her first two chances but made the third and when Monmouth last shot fell short, the Bears claimed the win.

- The Hawks finished their four-game road swing with a 2-2 record and are now 3-3 overall on the year.
- Monmouth had its streak of shooting 50% or better from the field snapped. However, the Hawks finished the gam3e shooting 42.9% and has now shot 40% or better from the field in five of six games this year.

- Monmouth handed out 18 assists in the game. Seven players recorded at least one assist in the game and that group was led by
Ariana Vanderhoop, who matched her career-high with five.
- MU won the rebounding battle, 37-35. It was the fourth time this season, the Hawks have won the rebounding battle.
Belle Kranbuhl led the efforts with a season-best 13 boards.
- One game after establishing her season-high in points scored,
Kaci Donovan bettered that number and her career-high with 22 points against the Bears.
- MU won the battle in the paint, outscoring Brown 32-26. The Hawks had 19 second chance points to Brown's nine in the game.
