HAMILTON, NY – Monmouth University Men's Basketball (0-5) posted several strong stretches of play, but were ultimately outlasted by Colgate University (4-2) Monday evening at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, NY, 85-66.
Â
The Hawks never gave in after Colgate's lead was 16 early in the second half. An MU run, capped by an athletic
Jack Collins finish at the rim cut it to nine at 15:32.
Andrew Ball's fadeaway made it eight, but the home team continued to fend off MU, eventually winning by that 19-point margin.
Â
After Sandhu scored Monmouth's first five points,
Jack Holmstrom's baseline runner cut it to a one-point game at 8-7. The Raiders extended the advantage back to eight, only to see a
Klemen Vuga three and ultimately a Holmstrom triple trim it to 24-21 at 7:07. Down just three after a Vuga foul-line jumper at 5:05, Colgate hit three straight triples to take a 41-29 lead into the locker room.

NOTES AND QUOTES
Â
"Once again I thought we were good for about 22-23 minutes and you can see from there we have some work to do. This is another really good Colgate team but I thought tonight was definitely our best game we've played. Unfortunately there was a five-minute stretch in the second half where it went from nine to 19 and that was the game. Our youngness pops up every once in a while but tonight was shorter stretches of us being young because we played our best game. We have to keep being tighter as a unit and we will get there." – Head Coach
King Rice
Â
"Last game we had a few guys with career nights, tonight it was Jayden's career-high. I think
Jack Collins is becoming a stud because of how competitive and how tough he is, Amaan started the game tremendous. We're young so it's hard to keep it going for the whole game but we knew that going in and I'm keeping my head all the way up because I see so many positives with this group. Our juniors didn't play a bunch last year and our oldest guy, Jarvis isn't playing yet, Myles has really stepped up but it's his first time playing this many minutes. We'll keep getting better." – Rice on the Hawks young players
