Â
OPENING TIP
-The Hawks are looking for their first true road win over the Jaspers since Feb. 24, 2017 when Monmouth came out on top, 63-50, in Riverdale, N.Y.
-A win would put Monmouth at 6-2 in MAAC play, marking the most conference wins in a season for the Hawks since the 2018-19 team finished with nine. Â
-It would be the program's best start to conference play since the 2011-12 team started 6-2 as a member of the NEC.
-Monmouth is looking to hand Manhattan its first home loss since Jan. 19, 2021.
-The Hawks captured their 10th victory of the season and fifth in conference action following a 63-53 home win against Rider this past Thursday.
-Manhattan is coming off back-to-back road wins over Saint Peter's and Iona this past week, after dropping three in a row in MAAC play. Â Â Â
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
-Sunday's matchup between Monmouth and Manhattan marks the 31st all-time meeting between the two sides.
-Manhattan has won each of the previous three matchups, including back-to-back victories a season ago on Jan. 24 & 25 at OceanFirst Bank Center.
Â
DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS
The Hawks earned their 10th win of the season after defeating Rider, 63-53, on Thursday night. It was the first time a Monmouth squad posted double-digit wins in a season since the 2018-19 campaign when the team finished with 14. It's the fastest a Monmouth team has reached the 10-win mark in a season since the 2010-11 team accomplished the feat in just 13 games.
Â
IN EXCLUSIVE COMPANY
It took just 16 games for Monmouth head women's basketball coach
Ginny Boggess to reach double-digit wins in her first season. She became the second-fastest head coach to accomplish that feat in his or her inaugural season at the helm of the program. Mickey McGlade (15 games – 1984-85) is the only coach that ranks ahead of Boggess, accomplishing the feat in his first 15 games.Â
Â
A SUCCESSFUL HOMESTAND
The Monmouth women's basketball team wrapped up a four-game homestand with three wins after topping Rider, 63-53, this past Thursday. The Hawks shot 41 percent from the field as a team, while outrebounding the opposition 154-127. Three of the four opponents were held to under 60 points. The Monmouth starters (
Stella Clark,
Ariana Vanderhoop,
Jania Hall,
Kaci Donovan and
Belle Kranbuhl) were responsible for 76 percent of the Hawks' points during the homestand.
Â
BELLE'S BLOCK PARTY
Sophomore center
Belle Kranbuhl was locked in defensively against Rider this past Thursday, posting a season-high seven blocks. She is one of just 26 Division I players this year to record seven or more blocks in a game. It was the sixth time this season that she tallied multiple blocks in an outing. Her seven denials were the most in a game by a Hawk since she swatted seven shots against Saint Peter's on Feb. 13, 2021. In her career, she has logged five games with five or more blocks.
Â
BOUNCING BACK
Monmouth has made a habit of bouncing back after losses this season. The Hawks are currently 5-1 in games played after a loss.
