MONMOUTH CAPTURES 2020-21 MAAC COMMISSIONER’S CUP

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth University has secured its sixth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Overall Commissioner's Cup and its fifth men's title since joining the conference in 2013-14. The commissioner's cup serves as a symbol of broad-based athletic excellence within the league.

"We are all proud to win our sixth overall and fifth men's MAAC Commissioner's Cup," Monmouth University Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil said. "This is always a goal of our athletics department and it is a direct result of the amazing talent, perseverance, and competitiveness of our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff across the board. We will celebrate this incredible accomplishment and I am confident we will continue to raise the bar and strive for excellence in the future."

Six Monmouth programs won MAAC regular season championships, including men's basketball, men's tennis, softball, and men's lacrosse, as well as both of the outdoor track and field teams. The track and field teams each won their seventh consecutive MAAC team championships, while men's tennis extended its MAAC dominance to six straight regular season titles and five tournament championships in a row. Monmouth's softball regular season title was its third straight, men's basketball won its third overall and men's lacrosse won its second overall regular season and tournament crown. The men's soccer tournament championship run gave the Hawks their second as a member of the league.

Dating back to its time as a member of the Northeast Conference, Monmouth has now won 14 overall Commissioner's Cups in program history. Monmouth also finished fourth in a tight race for the women's cup, 8.5 points behind first-place Siena.

"I am always proud when Monmouth wins the Commissioner's Cup, since it measures the strength of our Athletics program across the board," Monmouth University President Dr. Patrick F. Leahy said. "However, in this unprecedented year, when students faced so much adversity on and off the field of play, I am even more proud. I thank the MAAC for making these seasons possible for our students."

About the Commissioner's Cup:
In the conference's continuing efforts to recognize the achievements of its student-athletes, the Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 25 championship athletic events conducted within the MAAC. Each institution is scored in all championships that it fields a varsity team. However, only the scores from the men's and women's basketball participation, plus the other top six men's and other top six women's championships are used to determine an institution's total points.
