After jumping out to a 16-point advantage in the first quarter, Iona held on to defeat Monmouth on Thursday night, 55-48. The Hawks outscored the Gaels 45-36 in the final three quarters, but shot 11-23 (48%) from the free throw line in the loss. Redshirt junior Jen Louro scored a team-high 13 points, making 5-of-10 field goal attempts. Returning from injury, junior Alexa Wallace added a career-high nine points on 3-of-5 from the floor.
Freshman Belle Kranbuhl compiled eight points and seven rebounds in the contest, while classmate Sakeria Haralson registered six points and a season-high eight boards.
 
SCOUTING THE IONA GAELS
Iona was voted fifth in the 2020-21 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Junior Juana Camilion was voted to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team after being named to the 2019-20 All-MAAC Third Team. Redshirt sophomore Paulla Weekes was tabbed Preseason All-MAAC Third Team. Camilion leads the team with 12.0 points per game. Senior guard Olivia Vezaldenos has played all 12 games and is averaging 10.8 points per contest.
