FORMER HAWKS TO JOIN FORCES IN PREMIER LACROSSE LEAGUE

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – A pair of former Monmouth University student-athletes, Chris Hogan and Bryce Wasserman '18, '19M, have been claimed by the Premier Lacrosse League's Cannons Lacrosse Club ahead of the 2021 season.

Hogan and Wasserman are the only two Monmouth student-athletes to win a major professional sports championships, and now they will wear the same uniform when the PLL training camps open this summer. Both players are new to the PLL, with Hogan announcing his pursuit of playing professional lacrosse following a nine-year career in the National Football League that included two Super Bowl Championships with the New England Patriots. Hogan played football at Monmouth in 2010 after graduating from Penn State, where he was a standout lacrosse player with the Nittany Lions.

Wasserman is entering his fourth season of pro lacrosse and is coming off a title-winning season of his own. The former Monmouth standout was named the 2020 Major League Lacrosse Most Valuable Player after leading the Boston Cannons to the MLL title with a league-high 21 points in six games. As a Hawk, Wasserman was part of the program's 2017 MAAC Championship team and holds a number of offensive program records as Monmouth's all-time leader in goals (99), game-winning goals (9), hat tricks (14), assists (50) and points (149).

"I think it goes to show the strength of the athletic department at Monmouth," Wasserman said. "There have been plenty of pro athletes to come out of our programs, but to be the first to team up together is really exciting for me. I've been lucky enough to have my successes and now Chris is a two-sport professional athlete with Super Bowl rings. I think it shows our athletes can compete on any level and I am looking forward to representing Monmouth alongside Chris this summer."

In December 2020, the Premier Lacrosse League merged with Major League Lacrosse and expanded to eight teams. The 2021 season will be the third for the PLL and in the past it has had its teams travel to various cities across the country for weekend games during the summer.
