MONMOUTH IMPROVES GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE SCORE

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The NCAA released the annual Graduation Success Rate Data on Thursday afternoon and the Monmouth University Athletics Department improved its score from last year's report.

Overall, Monmouth's GSR score of 92 is based on the four entering classes from 2011-14.

Ten of Monmouth's programs led or tied for the lead of their respective conferences with perfect scores; men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, softball and women's tennis. Monmouth's bowling team also posted a perfect score of 100, which is tied for the highest in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The data marks the sixth consecutive year that Monmouth has reached or eclipsed the 90 percent threshold.

The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate. The federal rate counts any student who leaves a school as an academic failure, no matter whether he or she enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter school as transfer students.

The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation is a complete and accurate look at student-athlete success.
