Monmouth Notes
Â
OPENING TIP
-Monmouth has won three consecutive road contests this season, the longest streak in program history since 2012-13.
-A win over the Terriers would mark the most out-of-conference victories for the Hawks in a single season since the 2016-17 campaign. It would also give Monmouth its third win this month, which would mark the most December wins by the Hawks since 2016-17.Â
-The Hawks are coming off a 64-55 road victory over Iona in Monmouth's 2021-22 MAAC opener this past Saturday. Â
-St. Francis Brooklyn has won two of its last three outings, including an 85-37 home win opposite Caldwell on Saturday.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
-Monday's matchup between Monmouth and St. Francis Brooklyn marks the 59th all-time meeting between the two sides and the non-conference finale for the Hawks.
-St. Francis Brooklyn claimed the most-recent battle, 87-78, back on Nov. 16, 2016, snapping a five-game win streak in the series for the Hawks. Each of the six last meetings have been decided by single digits.
Â
CLARK COULD NOT BE STOPPED
In Monmouth's 64-55 road win over Iona on Saturday, graduate student point guard
Stella Clark erupted for a season-best 27 points, one shy of her career-best total. It was her most efficient shooting performance as a member of the Hawks, connecting on 8-of-12 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from long range. She became the first Monmouth player to score 20 or more points in a single game since teammate
Belle Kranbuhl poured in 20 on Feb. 14, 2021. The 27 points were also the most by a Hawk in an outing since Sierra Green '19 recorded 28 on Feb. 12, 2019 opposite Manhattan.
Â
LOURO HEATING UP
In the month of December, redshirt-senior guard
Jen Louro has made a significant impact on the offensive end of the ball. Over the past five outings, she is averaging 12.4 points per contest with a trio of 15-point performances. The Wall, N.J., native has been shooting at a 38-percent clip during that stretch and has buried nine treys.
Â
EFFICIENCY IS KEY
In the road win over Iona to open up MAAC play this past Saturday, the Hawks connected on 50 percent of their shots from the field as a team. It marked the most-efficient outing of the season for Monmouth and the best overall shooting performance since Feb. 14, 2021, when the Hawks made 51 percent of their shots from the floor in a win against Saint Peter's.
Â
OPENING MAAC PLAY WITH A WIN
Monmouth's win over Iona in the MAAC opener marked the first conference victory in the
Ginny Boggess era for the Hawks. It also was the third time in the last four seasons that Monmouth opened conference play with a win. Additionally, it was the Hawks' first conference road win since topping Saint Peter's, 70-60, on Feb. 14, 2021.
Â
AWAY FROM HOME
The Hawks have captured victories in each of their last three games away from home. The last time Monmouth won three straight true road games was during the 2012-13 season when the Hawks topped Wagner (Jan. 7), LIU Brooklyn (Jan. 19) and St. Francis Brooklyn (Jan. 21). Monmouth last won more than three consecutive true road games in a season in 2003-04. That year, the Hawks collected six straight road wins from Jan. 10 through Feb. 11.
Â
NON-CONFERENCE WINS
Monmouth has captured four non-conference victories this season. The four out-of-conference wins are the most in a single season for the Hawks since claiming four during the 2018-19 campaign. Monmouth last won more than four games during the non-conference slate in the 2016-17 season when the Hawks finished with five victories.
