Monmouth University has announced its campus-wide indoor event COVID-19 policies.
The following policies are in effect until further notice:
1. All fans 18 and over are required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test administered by a doctor's office or a clinic within 72 hours of the event time for indoor Athletic events. Home test kit results will not be accepted.
2. All event audiences must wear a mask that completely covers the nose and mouth of the participant. Face shields are not acceptable. This includes fans from 2-17 years of age.
3. Athletic events held in the OceanFirst Bank Center will be permitted to have food in the stands as long as masks remain on when the participant is not actively consuming food or beverages. Masks must be worn otherwise.
Men's and women's basketball season ticket holders will be mailed (and emailed) instructions on how to obtain a vaccine credential which will require them to show their vaccine cards once and receive a credential to speed up entrance to events. Season ticket holders who are not vaccinated will need to show proof a negative test within 72 hours of the event for every event attended.
Additionally, there will be separate entrances for students, season ticket holders and the general public. More information on those locations will be available on MonmouthHawks.com.
OPENING TIP
-Monmouth enters Wednesday's game off its first win of the 2021-22 season and the first under first-year head coach
Ginny Boggess.
-The 57-46 victory over Navy at OceanFirst Bank Center last Friday marked the first double-digit home win for the Hawks since Feb. 19, 2019 when Monmouth topped Saint Peter's, 70-50.
-St. Joe's most recently fell to Drexel on Nov. 12 on the road, 63-55, after winning its season opener against Maryland Eastern Shore, 84-49 three days prior.
INSIDE THE SERIES
-Wednesday's matchup between Monmouth and Saint Joseph's marks just the second all-time meeting between the two squads.
-The lone meeting occurred on Dec. 15, 2020 when St. Joe's bested the Hawks, 80-52, in Philadelphia.
Jen Louro led all Monmouth scorers with 12 points, while
Jania Hall and
Gabrielle Wener chipped in with 10 apiece.
CLARK CLIMBS THE LADDER
Despite being the shortest member of the Monmouth women's basketball team at 5-foot-4,
Stella Clark leads the Hawks in rebounding with 7.5 boards per contest. The Sea Girt, N.J., native not only leads the Hawks, but ranks second in the nation among active players who are 5-4 or smaller. Senior Asiah Dingle of Fordham ranks first with 9.5 rebounds per contest at 5-foot-4.
EVERYBODY GETTING INVOLVED
Ten different Hawks got into the scoring column in each of the first two games of the 2021-22 season. It marks the first time since the 2018-19 campaign that 10 or more Hawks scored in a game on two separate occasions during the same season (Feb. 28 vs. Marist & March 2 vs. Saint Peter's). That year, Monmouth had seven outings in which 10 or more Hawks recorded at least one point.
PLAYING THE PASSING LANES
Monmouth has found some success on the defensive end in its first two contests, logging double-digit steals in both outings while compiling 21 takeaways. Last season, the Hawks only had two games all season in which they reached double figures in steals as a team.
Stella Clark and
Jen Louro currently lead Monmouth this season with five steals apiece.
A PASSING OFFENSE
The Hawks have been effectively sharing the ball through the first two games of the season. Sixty-four percent of Monmouth's made shots have been assisted on. It is a trend that was carried on throughout the course of the 2020-21 season as the Hawks assisted on over 50 percent of their made shots in 15 of 18 outings. Through two outings,
Stella Clark and
Lucy Thomas lead Monmouth with six helpers apiece.
