OPENING TIP
-Monmouth women's basketball fans will have their first opportunity to see the new-look Hawks in person on Friday night when Navy comes to OceanFirst Bank Center for a 7 p.m. tip.
-Friday's contest marks the home opener for Monmouth and the first road contest of the year for Navy.
-Monmouth enters Friday's matchup having dropped its season opener on the road at Syracuse.
-Navy opened its season at home against Georgetown, falling to the Hoyas, 73-62.

INSIDE THE SERIES
-It'll be the fifth all-time meeting between the Hawks and Midshipmen with the series knotted up at 2-2.
-The two sides last battled on Dec. 19, 2018 in West Long Branch when Monmouth bested Navy, 68-67. Lucy Thomas recorded 15 points and 10 boards in the win.
-Three of the four all-time meetings between the two teams have been decided by single-digit points.

EVERYBODY GETTING INVOLVED
Ten different Hawks got into the scoring column against Syracuse in the season opener on Nov. 10, led by Ariana Vanderhoop's 11 points. It was the first time that 10 or more Hawks scored in a game since Dec. 29, 2019 at Albany. Monmouth topped Albany on the road in that contest, 53-41, with 10 different players recording at least a point. Lucy Thomas (6), Alexa Wallace (3) and Jen Louro (2) each contributed to the scoring efforts opposite the Great Danes.

PLAYING THE PASSING LANES
In the season opener against Syracuse, the Hawks found some success on the defensive end and came away with 11 steals. Recording double-digit steals in a game was a feat that Monmouth accomplished just twice last season (March 4 vs. Iona & March 9 vs. Rider).

A PASSING OFFENSE
Against Syracuse, Monmouth dished out 10 assists on its 16 made shots. Five different Hawks recorded a pair of assists in the contest. It is a trend that was carried on throughout the course of the 2020-21 season as the Hawks assisted on over 50 percent of their made shots in 15 of 18 outings.

SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll after wrapping up the 2020-21 season with a 5-7 overall record and 5-3 mark in league play. The Mids dropped their season opener to Georgetown, 73-62, but until a late run by the Hoyas, it was a three-point game with around seven minutes left to play. Senior Jennifer Coleman, a Preseason All-Patriot League selection, led the way with a team-best 22 points to go along with 11 boards, three assists and three steals. Her classmate, Kolbi Green, also reached double-digit scoring with 13.
