WASHINGTON, DC – The Monmouth University softball team dropped two games on Saturday, including an 8-2 setback against Winthrop and a 10-2 loss to host George Washington.

Senior
Amanda Hopeck (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) hit a solo home run in the opener, and later picked up another RBI on a fielder's choice.

The Hawks cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third in game two, but the Colonials answered with seven more runs to seal the win.

Monmouth drops to 10-9 on the season, and the team wrap up the weekend against George Washington tomorrow at 12:00 PM. Â

-In game one, the first three innings went scoreless. Winthrop took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, all with two outs. The Eagles led 3-0 after two RBI singles and an error.
-Winthrop extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run.
-With one out in the top of the sixth, Hopeck launched a solo home run down the left field line, cutting the deficit to 5-1.
-Later in the inning, junior
Erika Coreth walked, senior
Tommi Stowers hit a single, and freshman
Kylie Gletow walked. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Hawks grounded out.
-In the bottom of the sixth, Winthrop hit a two-RBI single and another RBI single to increase its advantage to 8-1.
-With one out in the top of the seventh, sophomore
Lindsey Baron hit a double to center field, and senior
Kayla Rosado bumped her to third with a single. Hopeck reached on a fielder's choice, and Baron scored to make it 8-2.

-In game two, George Washington got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Colonials hit an RBI double and an RBI groundout.
-Another run was tacked on in the bottom of the second on an RBI single.
-Monmouth cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third. Junior Harrington advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing senior
Amber Wozniak to score.
-Rosado picked up an RBI groundout to score Harrington.
-George Washington hit a solo home run in the fifth to go back up by two runs.
-Six runs from GW in the bottom of the sixth ended the game early, including a grand slam on the last at bat.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Hopeck hit her second home run of the season, and fourth of her career.
-In 19 games this season, Rosado is batting .450 with 20 RBI.
-Baron has hit 25 doubles in 73 career games.
