CONWAY, SC – An offensive explosion propelled the Monmouth University softball team over Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday, 20-3. The Hawks registered 21 hits and scored their most runs in a game since April 2017.
 
Monmouth's 21 hits are the most in a single game since February 26, 2012 (22 vs. Delaware).
 
Eight different Monmouth batters registered at least two RBI, including senior Sam Tomasetti, sophomore Lindsey Baron, senior Amanda Hopeck, junior Morgan Maziarz, senior Amber Wozniak, senior Deangie Jimenez, freshman Kylie Gletow, and senior Tommi Stowers.
 
Tomasetti (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley/Hofstra) went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and three runs in the win.
 
Gletow (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) earned the win in the circle to improve to 4-2 on the season.
 
Stowers (Columbus, IN/Columbus North/Western Kentucky) came in to pinch hit in the bottom of the fourth and launched a two-run home run.
 
Monmouth improves to 9-6 on the season, and the team will continue non-conference play at George Washington's Buff & Blue Challenge next weekend.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Monmouth started the scoring right away in the bottom of the first, getting a leadoff double from Tomasetti and an RBI double from Baron. Maziarz later hit an RBI double, and Wozniak followed with a two-RBI single to right field. At the end of one, the Hawks led 4-0.
-The Hawks broke the game open in the bottom of the second with nine runs. With the bases loaded, Rosado picked up an RBI single. Hopeck followed with a two-RBI single.
-Still with no outs, Maziarz hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Rosado. An infield RBI single from Jimenez made it 11-0.
-Gletow helped her own cause with a two-RBI single to end Monmouth's scoring in the bottom of the second.
-After UMES scored three runs in the top of the third, the Hawks scored four more in the bottom half. The inning included a sacrifice fly from Jimenez, an RBI double from Harrington, a sacrifice fly from Baron, and an RBI double from freshman Riley Riendeau.
-Stowers launched her first home run of the season, a two-run shot to put Monmouth up 19-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Heather Lally scored on the play after drawing a walk.
-Tomasetti hit an RBI single with one out to make it 20-3.
-Junior Christine Frazee closed out the win with three outs in the top of the fifth.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth went 4-1 in the Coastal Carolina Invitational, and has won seven of its last nine games. The Hawks outscored opponents 37-10 on the weekend.
-In 15 games this season, Rosado is batting .511 (24-for-47) with 19 RBI. In the five games at Coastal Carolina, she went 8-for-12 (.667) with eight RBI.
-Gletow improved her record to 4-2 on the season and lowered her ERA to 2.87.
-12 different Hawks had a hit.
-11 different Hawks scored a run.
-Monmouth struck out just once.
-The Hawks hit seven doubles.
-Four different Hawks have at least 8 RBI this season (Rosado, Hopeck, Coreth, Maziarz).
-Gletow, sophomore Antonia Browning, and Frazee gave up just one hit each.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will compete at George Washington's Buff & Blue Challenge next weekend. Opponents include Rider, Winthrop, and George Washington.
