WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After trailing by as many as 16 points, the Monmouth University women's basketball stormed back in the second half to defeat Siena on Thursday, 49-43.

The Hawks outscored the Saints 36-18 in the third and fourth quarters, shooting 13-26 (50%) from the floor. Â

Senior
Sierra Green (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis/Monroe CC) led the way with 17 points, including 15 (6-12 FG) in the second half.

Taylor Nason (Lorton, VA/South County) registered her second career double-double with 11 points (5-8 FG) and 11 rebounds. She also added three steals and two assists.

Monmouth improves to 8-19 (5-13 MAAC) on the season, and will travel to Manhattan next Thursday.

-After senior
Akilah Jennings hit a three-pointer to put Monmouth ahead by one, Siena answered with a 9-0 run.
-Siena scored with time expiring in the first quarter, taking a 15-7 lead heading into the second.
-The Saints scored the first eight points of the second quarter, building a 23-7 lead.
-Monmouth scored back-to-back layups to end the second quarter, including a fast break at the buzzer. At halftime, Siena led 25-13.
-The Hawks netted eight straight points to open the third quarter, including five from Nason, to cut the deficit to 25-21.
-Monmouth eventually outscored the Saints 18-8 in the third quarter, and trailed by just two heading into the final frame. Green scored 10 points in the quarter, including two triples.
-After trailing by as many as 16, Monmouth took the lead with 7:59 left in the fourth with another Green triple.
-With 2:49 remaining, sophomore
Alexa Wallace made a free throw to tie the game at 41-41.
-A running floater from Jennings put Monmouth up 45-41, but Siena answered with a layup and a stop.
-With 16.5 seconds left, the Saints trailed by two with possession. Jennings came up with a steal, and later drained two free throws.
-Wallace added two more free throws with four second left to seal the win.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Nason registered her first double-double since February 3, 2018 (12 points, 12 rebounds vs. Rider). She scored in double-figures for sixth time in her career.
-Green scored in double-figures for the 38
th time in 58 career games. With three more tonight, she ranks fourth in program history with has 159 made triples.
-Senior
Rosa Graham dished four assists, and is now tied for 12
th all-time with 262.
-Jennings finished with nine points, five rebounds, and two huge steals with less than 10 seconds remaining.
-Monmouth held a 28-18 advantage in the paint.
-The Hawks held Siena to just 15-49 (30.6%) from the field, including 4-14 (28.6%) from deep.
-In the fourth quarter, Monmouth shot 6-12 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.

Adriana Zelaya's four points included tying the game with 4:04 left and giving Monmouth a two-point lead with 2:26 left.

UP NEXT
Monmouth travels to Manhattan next Thursday for the last road game of the regular season. The Hawks hold a 16-11 all-time series lead, including a 62-60 overtime win in West Long Branch on December 17.
