LAST TIME OUT
Monmouth finished last season with a 9-22 (5-15 MAAC) record and advanced to the MAAC Quarterfinals for the seventh consecutive campaign. The No. 10 Hawks were defeated by No. 2 Marist, 68-44. Monmouth was picked eighth in the 2020-21 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. In addition, junior forward Lucy Thomas earned Preseason All-MAAC Second Team honors. The Hawks lost six student-athletes to graduation, but welcome six freshmen to the mix. Last season, Monmouth led the MAAC in scoring defense, allowing just 57.5 points per game.
 
SCOUTING THE RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers finished last season with a 22-9 (11-7 Big Ten) record, falling to #20 Indiana in the Big Ten Quarterfinals. The team is led by redshirt senior guard Arella Guirantes, who was selected as Preseason Big Ten Co-Player of the Year and to the Naismith Trophy Watch List for National Player of the Year. The team also returns senior Tekia Mack, who scored 11.5 points per game and grabbed 7.0 rebounds per game a year ago.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. RUTGERS
Rutgers holds a 4-0 all-times series lead. The teams last met in 1986, when the Scarlet Knights earned an 81-67 victory.
