WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's basketball team has announced the signings of guard Emily Jimenez (Boca Raton, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) and guard Antonia Panayides (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic). The duo will join the team ahead of the 2021-22 season.
"Our program got better today in signing Emily and Antonia," said Monmouth head coach
Jody Craig. "They are two talented, hard-nosed, and determined young ladies. Their exceptional character and drive will help take us to another level next season."
Jimenez was a team captain during her junior year at Cardinal Gibbons, averaging 11.6 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game. She helped lead the team to a district championship, regional championship, the state Final Four, and a 25-4 season record. Known as a lockdown defender, Jimenez also earned Sun Sentinel Second Team All-County and Miami Herald Second Team All-County honors. In her freshman and sophomore seasons at Boca Raton Community High School, she led the team to a 15-0 record.
Panayides has played three years of varsity at Red Bank Catholic, and the team holds a .750 winning percentage in that span. She competed in all 28 games as a junior, averaging 22.0 minutes per game. Panayides led the team in free throw percentage at 80.0, and was second on the team with a field goal percentage of 51 percent. The New Jersey native dished 83 assists to just 33 turnovers, ending the season with 7.1 points per game and a 33 three-point percentage. She is also a fourth degree black belt with three Grand Champion Belts in Taekwondo tournaments.
