MEN’S SOCCER PLAYS BINGHAMTON TO SCORELESS DRAW

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Monmouth University men's soccer team played Binghamton to a scoreless draw on Saturday.
 
The Hawks held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
 
Freshman Anthony Arena (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) earned his first career start and led the team with three shots, all on goal. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sean Murray (Fairview, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fairview) stopped both shots sent his way, earning a shutout for the third0df time in his career.
 
Monmouth's record now stands at 0-5-1, and the team will travel to Columbia next Friday before MAAC play begins.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Monmouth registered six shots on goal in the first half compared to Binghamton's one.
-With six minutes remaining, freshman Ben Zakowski slipped a ball through to Arena, whose shot nearly went through the goalkeeper's legs but was saved on the goal line.
-With less than four minutes to play in the first overtime period, Monmouth blocked two straights shots inside the 18.
 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-The teams tied 0-0 for the second consecutive season.
-With two more today, Murray now has 112 saves in 23 career starts.
-The freshmen trio of Ben Zakowski, Julian Gomez, and Griffin Tomas all registered a shot on goal.
-Binghamton held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
 
UP NEXT
Monmouth will travel to Columbia next Friday night for the non-conference finale. The Hawks have a slight 4-3 advantage in the all-time series lead, but the Lions have won three straight.
