AUSTIN – Three first-half goals propelled the Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over No. 25 Texas on Sunday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
Monmouth dominated Texas from the outset, with
Dana Scheriff (Babylon, NY / Babylon) putting the Hawks on the board in the sixth minute. A low cross made its way through the Texas penalty area where Scheriff stepped in front of a defender and used her left foot to score.
A counter-attack set up Monmouth's second goal in the 18
th minute as
Lauren Karabin (Wall, NJ / Wall / Brookdale) started the break. Her pass back to
Madie Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May Regional) set up a cross that was perfectly headed inside the far post by
Lexie Palladino (Medford, NJ / Shawnee).
A 70-yard run by Gibson to the Texas end line preceded a left-footed cross that
A'Liah Moore (Manchester, NJ / Manchester) tapped into the empty net to make it 3-0 in the 26
th minute.
Gibson added a late goal in the 84
th minute to push the final total to 4-0.
