WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – A spectacular pitching performance by Alyssa Irons paved the way for a doubleheader sweep by the Monmouth University softball team against Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at the MU Softball Park.

Irons tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout in game one of the twinbill as Monmouth defeated the Bobcats 3-0, before pitching five no-hit innings in relief to earn the win in game two. The sweep was the result of a comeback win after Quinnipiac built a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Kayla Rosado delivered a two-out, game-tying, three-run blast way over the left-centerfield fence in the bottom of the fifth inning, before Amanda Hopeck drove in the winning run with a double in the home half of the seventh.

Hopeck's walkoff landed on the warning track in centerfield with two away in the inning as Lindsay Baron waltzed home from third for the winning run. The Hawks remained perfect in MAAC play with the wins (6-0) and have won 28 of 29 games against MAAC competition.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I thought we did a good job today, anytime you can get a sweep in conference play it's a big deal. I thought Quinnipiac came out ready to play and we just found a way to win each game.

Alyssa (Irons) has been really consistent for us and I thought she did a really good job. They were patient enough to make her throw strikes and she kept teetering between walking and attacking them. To come back in game two, it's asking quite a bit of her, and to be honest, I thought she was a little bit better and more consistent with her strikes. We like to put the ball in her hands.

We've learned a lot about our resiliency in our midweek doubleheaders. We've been down against good teams, had to fight back and that is the mark of a good team, is the ability to come back. I am very proud of it, and now we turn our attention to Rider." -  Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg

-In game one, Irons came within one strike of her second no-hitter of the season. Quinnipiac's Brighid Douglas singled with two outs in the top of the seventh to give the Bobcats their lone hit.
- Monmouth built the lead with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to support Irons.
- Katie Harrington tripled to start the fourth inning and later scored on Erika Coreth's RBI single.
- Deangie Jimenez's RBI single in the fifth increased the lead to 2-0 and Monmouth added a third run on an error by Quinnipiac.
- The Hawks racked up 10 hits to Quinnipiac's one, and Kendall Brundrett took the loss for the Bobcats.

-In game two, Quinnipiac took the three-run lead in the second inning against Monmouth starter Lily Robles.
- Irons entered with a runner on first in the top of the third and allowed one baserunner the rest of the game, a two-out walk in the fourth.
- Facing a 3-0 deficit in the fifth, pinch hitter Danielle Dominik started the rally with a single to center. Two outs and a walk later, Rosado launched the opposite field home run to tie the game.
- Irons retired the final 10 Quinnipiac hitters she faced before Hopek's double scored Lindsay Baron, who opened the inning with a single to center field.
