WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's tennis team defeated Marist on Wednesday, 6-1, clinching its fifth-consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. The Red Foxes came into the match with a 5-0 conference record, but the Hawks improved to 15-1 (5-0 MAAC) on the season and won their 13^th match in a row. Senior Srdjan Jakovljevic earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Juniors Max Benaim and Sergio Martinez teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles, and each won their singles match. Sophomore Will Cooke Wharton won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and also teamed up with senior Nicola Pipoli for a win at No. 1 doubles. Monmouth has now outscored opponents 79-7 on its current winning streak. The Blue & White secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament, beginning with the semifinals on Saturday, April 27. Prior to that, the team will host Niagara and LaSalle this Saturday for the regular season finale.
