NOTES AND QUOTES

"I'm very proud of the way we came out today. We knew that Canisius was going to bring a lot of energy. We talked a lot about being ourselves, but also bringing our energy. I like the fact that in both games, we got down but fought right back and took control. That's going to be an important thing that's going to pay off later in the year. Both pitchers did a nice job of working out of innings by trusting their defense, and offensively we had great days from top to bottom. We'll enjoy a couple days off before getting right back to it on Wednesday." -  Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg

-In game one, Canisius went ahead with an early RBI single.
-Monmouth quickly answered in the bottom of the first, as Wozniak and junior Amanda Hopeck each hit RBI singles.
-In the bottom of the second, Baron reached on a fielding error by the right fielder, allowing sophomore Erika Coreth to score following her double.
-With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Irons helped herself out with an RBI single to third base. The hit put Monmouth up 4-1, and strong pitching in the final four innings made that the final.

-In game two, the Golden Griffins used a sacrifice fly to go ahead 1-0 in the top of the first.
-Monmouth once again answered in the bottom of the first, beginning with a two-RBI single from Rosado. Wozniak then singled to left center, allowing Rosado to score and make it 3-1.
-In the bottom of the second, Baron launched a two-run home run to dead center to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead. Sophomore Morgan Maziarz scored on the play after registering a walk.
-After junior Sam Tomasetti singled, Rosado picked up another RBI with a single to right field.
-Monmouth went ahead 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI triple down the right field line from Wozniak. Rosado and Tomasetti scored on the play.
-In the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks went ahead by eight to run-rule Canisius. After a double from freshman Danielle Dominik and a groundout to send her to third, Baron reached on a fielding error by the third baseman.
