HAWKS NEVER TRAILS IN 20-POINT WIN OVER SAINT PETER’S

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ  – The Monmouth University women's basketball team led for 38:12 in a dominant win over Saint Peter's on Tuesday, 70-50. The Hawks took a 7-4 lead early in the first quarter and never looked back, shooting 29-57 (50.9%) from the floor and 9-21 (42.9%) from three-point land. Junior Alexa Middleton registered her fifth double-double in the last 10 games, scoring 12 points with a career-high 17 rebounds. Senior McKinzee Barker was one shy of a career-high with 16 points, shooting an efficient 6-8 from the floor and 4-6 from long range. Junior Sierra Green went into double-figures for a team-leading 18th time, adding 11 points on another three triples. The Hawks grabbed a season-high 53 rebounds in the win and matched a season-high of 19 assists. The Blue & White have now won six of their last nine games, improving their record to 11-14 (7-7 MAAC) on the season. Monmouth has just four regular season games left, beginning with trips to Niagara and Canisius this weekend.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Monmouth made five of its first seven shots, taking a 12-5 lead midway through the opening frame. Saint Peter's went on a quick 6-0 run out of the media to make it 12-11.
-The Hawks used a 7-0 run at the end of the first to take a 19-11 advantage. They shot 8-14 (57%) from the floor, and held the Peacocks to just 4-20 (20%).
-Scoring the first six points of the second quarter, the Hawks extended the run to 13-0 and went ahead 25-11.
-Monmouth stayed hot towards the end of the second, making 5-of-7 shots and going on a 7-0 run. The Hawks led by 18 with 2:59 left.
-Saint Peter's scored some late buckets at the end of the second quarter, but the Hawks still led 39-26 at halftime. Monmouth shot 16-29 (55%) from the floor and held the Peacocks to 8-34 (24%).
-By the third quarter media (3:57), each team had scored nine points. Monmouth led 48-35, with its most recent basket a corner three from freshman Alexa Wallace.
-By the end of the third, Monmouth led 52-38. The Hawks held the slight 13-12 advantage in the quarter.
-Barker's fourth triple of the game put Monmouth back up by 18 with 6:04 left in the fourth.
-Monmouth kept the foot on the gas in the fourth, going up by as many as 22 with 1:57 left. The Hawks eventually won 70-50.
 
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Barker went into double-figures for the fifth time this season, and 21st of her career.
-Middleton's previous career-high for rebounds was 16, set last season at Niagara. She went 6-10 from the floor and also matched a career-high with three assists in her strong effort.
-Green made three more three-pointers in this game, and now has 84 on the season. She trails only Kayla Shaw (93) for the program record with four regular season games remaining.
-Senior Erica Balman put up eight points (4-5 FG), six rebounds, and two blocks.
-Freshman Lucy Thomas nearly registered her fifth double-double of the season with eight points and 10 rebounds.
-The Hawks held Saint Peter's to just 18-65 (27.7%) from the floor and 2-8 (25%) from three.
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will travel north to face Niagara on Friday and Canisius on Sunday. Earlier this season in West Long Branch, Monmouth earned a 76-54 win over the Purple Eagles. The Hawks now lead the all-time series 7-5.
