#19 PRINCETON TOPS MEN’S LACROSSE IN SEASON OPENER

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 19 Princeton scored the game's first seven goals and never looked back in an eventual 23-7 victory over the Monmouth University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.

Emmet Cordrey and Chris Brown combined for 11 goals for the Tigers, who built an 11-1 advantage by halftime. Monmouth came out of the break with two quick goals by Anthony Sardo, who scored three of Monmouth's four third quarter goals, but the deficit never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Zach Clemete contributed two goals for Monmouth in the loss, while Max Brooks and Ethan Masucci added late tallies.

- Monmouth fell to 1-5 all-time against ranked opponents.
- The Hawks are 0-3 at home against ranked teams.
- Monmouth is 2-4 all-time in season opening games.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Anthony Sardo's hat trick was the second of his career. Sardo has at least one goal in three straight games dating back to last season and 16 goals in his career.
- Zach Clemente scored twice for the Hawks. Clemente recorded his sixth-career multi goal game. Clemente has strung together three straight multi-goal games and has at least one goal in five consecutive contests. Clemente increased his career goals total to 18.
- Max Brooks scored his second-career goal.
- Ethan Masucci scored in his collegiate debut.
- Casey Kimmel, Griffin Figel, Eamon Campbell, Gordon Phillips and Jimmy Watson each contributed assists in the loss.
- Noah Lode finished with 11 saves in goal for Monmouth. It was Lode's 13th career double-digit save effort.
- Mike Yanovitch made two saves in 6:49 to close out the game.
- Dillon Smart and Chris Hervada each picked up five ground balls in the game.
- Freshman Ryan Morris caused two turnovers in his first-collegiate action.
- Faceoffs favored Princeton 19-13 and ground balls were 46-29 in favor of the Tigers.

UP NEXT
Monmouth's first road game comes next Saturday, February 23 when it travels to Newark, DE to meet Delaware. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
