WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OUTLASTED BY QUINNIPIAC

Quinnipiac Bobcats (14-6, 9-0 MAAC) – 58
Monmouth Hawks (7-12, 3-5 MAAC) - 46

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ  – Despite shooting just 17-63 (27%) from the floor, a strong final quarter sent Quinnipiac past the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Friday night, 58-46. Monmouth tied the game at 39 with time expiring in the third quarter, but the Bobcats outscored the Hawks 19-7 in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Quinnipiac overcame its tough shooting night by forcing 22 Monmouth turnovers and going 20-25 (80%) from the free throw line, extending its MAAC winning streak to 40 games. Junior Sierra Green led the Hawks with 15 points, and made another three triples to extend her league-leading total to 68. The Blue & White drop to 7-12 (3-5 MAAC) on the season, and will travel to Fairfield for a 2:00 PM matchup on Sunday.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"We just weren't smooth in the fourth quarter, and we needed to be. We had a chance down the stretch, and you have to be able to know how to play through that. It's a learning experience, and it was a great improvement from the last time we played them. Our defensive performance was very encouraging. They were missing a great player in Jen Fay, which gets them out of their rhythm, but we also contested a lot of shots." -  Monmouth head coach Jody Craig

-Quinnipiac started the game 1-13 from the floor, allowing Monmouth to take a 7-3 lead.
-By the end of the first quarter, the Bobcats took a slight 11-9 lead despite shooting 4-20 (20%) from the floor. The Hawks went 4-9 (44%) in the first quarter.
-Monmouth scored four of the first five points of the second quarter to regain the lead at 13-12.
-After going down 17-13, Green hit back-to-back triples to tie the game at 19.
-The Bobcats scored the last eight points of the half to go ahead 27-19.
-Quinnipiac led by as many as 10 in the third, but the Hawks battled back with an 11-1 run. An Emani Clough three followed by an Alexa Middleton and-one basket tied the game at 32 with 4:36 left.
-Monmouth eventually extended that third quarter run to 13-1, regaining the lead at 34-32.
-With time running out in the third, freshman Lucy Thomas buried a straightaway to tie the game. With Monmouth's 20-12 advantage in the third quarter, the teams were locked at 39 heading into the fourth.
-Quinnipiac's 11-4 run to open to fourth quarter gave it a 50-43 lead. The Hawks called a timeout to regroup with 3:21 left.
