Brown advances in penalty kicks, 4-1

PROVIDENCE – Following a scoreless regulation and two overtime periods, #16 Brown advanced past the Monmouth University women's soccer team in penalty kicks in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Senior Jess Johnson scored Monmouth's first penalty opportunity to level the score at 1-1 before Brown scored each of its next three spot kicks and saved two. Brown goalkeeper Kayla Thompson stopped two of Monmouth's penalties after making six saves during the match.

The Hawks made their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth consecutive postseason trip and registered their first-ever shutout in NCAA Tournament play. Senior goalie Amanda Knaub finished with four saves in the contest.

- Monmouth made its fifth NCAA Tournament trip since 2013 and its fourth consecutive.
- It was Monmouth's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in program history (2007, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
- Monmouth ended the season unbeaten in its last 16 games (14-0-2).
- Monmouth finished the season with a 14-2-3 overall record and has won at least 14 games in four consecutive seasons.
- The Hawks are one of three teams in the country unbeaten away from home this season. Monmouth ends the year 7-0-3 on the road.
- Over the last four seasons, Monmouth's senior class finished their careers with 59 total wins, the most for a class under Krissy Turner and the second most in program history.
- Monmouth is now 2-10-1 all-time against ranked opponents.
- Brown leads the all-time series against Monmouth 2-0-1.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Amanda Knaub made four saves to earn her 15th shutout of the season and 45th career clean sheet.
- Knaub's 15 shutouts are tied for the most in a season in Monmouth history with Lori Houlihan (1995).
- Knaub's 45 career shutouts rank tied for eighth in NCAA Division I history.
- Knaub extended her scoreless streak to 932:55, the longest streak in program history. She passed Houlihan's previous record of 884:00 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
- As a team, Monmouth will end the season having surrendered an NCAA-low four goals against.
- Madie Gibson finished her career with 35 goals, 32 assists and 102 career points.
- Gibson's 102 points are fifth in program history. She is tied for fifth in goals and is second in assists.
- Monmouth outshot Brown, 19-10, including 6-4 in shots on goal.
- Monmouth earned 10 corner kicks and Brown had seven.
