MEN’S SOCCER FALLS AT MARIST IN DOUBLE OT

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY  – Despite registering 10 shots on goal, the Monmouth University men's soccer team fell to Marist in double overtime Wednesday night, 1-0.
 
The Red Foxes dribbled down the right side to the goal line, played a ball across, had a shot blocked, and finished the rebound.
 
The Hawks held a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal, and were awarded seven corner kicks in the loss.
 
Monmouth will look to rebound at Canisius this Saturday.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Late in the first half, senior Andy Martinez played a long ball into the box, where sophomore Liam McGregor dove to get a foot on it. The Marist keeper made the tough save on the doorstep.
-In the first overtime, freshman Griffin Tomas put a dangerous shot on goal from deep, but the Marist keeper got a hand on it.
-In the 102nd minute, Marist dribbled to the end line and played a ball across the box. After an original shot was blocked, Allen Gavilanes gathered the rebound and placed a ball to the right side.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Eight different Hawks had at least one shot.
-Sophomore Anes Mrkulic, Tomas, and McGregor each had two shots on goal.
-Murray made five saves, and now has 148 in 32 career games.
-McGregor played 51 minutes off the bench, nearly scoring a goal in his third straight game.
-Monmouth had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half.
 
UP NEXT
Monmouth heads to Buffalo this Saturday to face Canisius. The Hawks then return home to play Iona next Wednesday for the regular season finale.
