Liam McGregor (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) scored his first career goal to cut the deficit to one in the 77
th minute, but Fairfield scored one minute later to seal the win over the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Saturday night, 3-1.
The Stags opened the scoring in the 38
th minute and added to their lead at the beginning of the second half.
Connecticut native
Griffin Tomas (Seymour, CT/Seymour) dribbled down the left side of the 18 and played a low ball across the box, where McGregor battled a defender and tapped it in.
Fairfield went back ahead by two goals in the 78
th minute, as a through ball got behind the Monmouth defense into the 18, where the Stags finished inside the left post.
Monmouth drops to 1-10-2 (1-4-1 MAAC) on the season, and will head back home to host Quinnipiac on Wednesday.
