SAINT PETER'S DEFEATS MEN’S SOCCER IN RAINY NIGHT

Monmouth Hawks (1-9-2, 1-3-1 MAAC) – 1
 
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ  – Three second-half goals sent Saint Peter's past the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Wednesday night, 4-1.
 
In a windy, rain-filled night, the Hawks took a 1-0 in the 32nd minute, as freshman Ben Zakowski (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) scored his third goal in as many games. Saint Peter's scored the equalizer in the 37th minute, then added three tallies in the last 45 minutes to seal the win.
 
Monmouth drops to 1-9-2 (1-3-1 MAAC) on the season, and will travel to Fairfield this Saturday.   
 
NOTES AND QUOTES

-Zakowski opened the scoring in the first half, taking a pass from sophomore Michael Neff, making a move to his right and shooting a laser to the left side.
-Just over five minutes later, Saint Peter's forward Jordan Jowers made it 1-1 after a scramble in the box.
-The Peacocks took the lead in the 66th minute, heading home a corner kick.
-Another crowded box led to a goal from the Peacocks' Dominic Laws after receiving a square ball.
-With less than 10 minutes to play, Saint Peter's increased its lead to 4-1 on a Monmouth own goal.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Zakowski now leads the team in goals (3) and points (6).
-Neff dished his second career assist and now has four career points.
-Redshirt junior John Antunes led the team with four shots, including two on goal.
-Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sean Murray made two saves, including a diving stop in the 81st minute on a breakaway.
-Monmouth held a 7-6 shot advantage in the first half.
 
UP NEXT
Monmouth will travel to Connecticut on Saturday to face Fairfield. Kick is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
